In 2006, Databazaar.com began a philanthropy program aimed at promoting greater understanding of business and culture between the United States and South Asian countries --- two regions where Databazaar operates significant facilities for its online business. The initial effort therefore, is aimed at American and South Asian students in the fields of digital media and visual communication.
Accordingly, the two following specific scholarships have been instituted:
A one-time grant of USD 2500 to support one student from South Asia in his/her pursuit of higher education in the United States, in the various fields of Visual Communication including photography, photojournalism and filmmaking. One grant will be awarded every year to a different recipient.
A one-time grant of USD 2500, as travel funds, for an American student already enrolled in a four-year degree program in Photography, Photojournalism, Broadcast Journalism or Film-making in the United States, who wishes to travel to South Asia on a visual project. One grant will be awarded every year to a different recipient.
Eligibility:
South Asian students (holding South Asian passports) should be currently enrolled in an accredited 4 year undergraduate program in the USA, in photography, photojournalism, broadcast journalism or filmmaking. These students should have a current cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and must submit a portfolio of their visual work and a letter stating their need.
